- Educate the general public on the existence and benefits of rescue organizations
- Ensure all foster dogs are spayed and neutered before adoption
- Provide medical care, training and educational resources to foster homes including palliative care for dogs in long term foster homes
- Promote responsible Northern Breed ownership, specifically Alaskan Malamutes
- Work towards the betterment of Alaskan Malamute welfare across Canada
Community Benefit
The greatness of a nation and its moral direction can be measured by its treatment of its animals – Mahatma Ghandi
In the aftermath of the atrocity in Whistler and the mass slaughter of sled dogs across Canada it is evident that change is needed. Change to ensure that we are headed in a direction where animals and humans both benefit, where lives are valued and each dog has the forever home it deserves.
The AMHL hopes to educate people to choose wisely when selecting a pet, to understand the unique nature of their Malamute, to work through issues and reduce dogs killed or brought to shelters; to assist shelters in placing Malamutes so that they find forever homes; to educate the public and increase their awareness of rescues and the importance of care and rehabilitation to avoid these senseless slaughters.
As a society it is up to each of us to bring change.
The AMHL is committed to providing HELP -Housing, Evaluation, Love, and Placement– to those that cannot help themselves.
