Overview

Statistics recently released report breast cancer continues to be the most frequently diagnosed cancer among Canadian women and rates second for mortality.

In 2010, an estimated 23,200 women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer, an increase of 500 from 2009.

While there is no way to prevent breast cancer, there are things you can do to reduce your risk – starting now!

We would like to develop a free mobile information service designed to promote breast health and risk reduction techniques.

Youth who sign up for the service will receive free SMS text messages each week containing information they need to take care of their health and ways to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer in the future. Some key messages will including eating healthy, staying active, signs and symptoms to look for, myth busting, etc. A sample text would be: "FACT: there is no scientific evidence linking getting hit in the breast with developing breast cancer".

How will the $25K be used?

$ 20,000 development and maintenance of SMS subscription service across Canada
$ 5,000 education and advertisement of service
