Goals

  • Connecting homeless and phoneless people to opportunity and hope!

Overview

A unique and innovative phone system is reconnecting Vancouver’s most vulnerable citizens who are in crisis and transition.  Lu’ma Native Housing Society is proud to bring a remarkable program to Canada that has been changing lives and connecting homeless and/or phoneless people in the U.S. for almost 20 years: Community Voice Mail (CVM).

The roll-out for this program quietly started in February when 30 service providers of housing, employment, healthcare and social services in and around the Downtown Eastside began receiving their banks of DID (direct-inward-dial) local phone numbers.  These numbers are then given to clients by the caseworkers who help them—fortifying these relationships while helping people identify and reach their goals.

How will the $25K be used?

$ 25,000 Will provide 1000 phone numbers and voice boxes to people in crisis.
