Overview
Robert Bateman’s Get to Know team is developing a "Best Practices" page with resources for parents and teachers that will help them get youth outdoors and exploring nature.
We are creating some materials, and collecting the rest from leading educators, artists, photographers, writers, filmmakers, wildlife experts and outdoor adventurers. The page will include lesson plans, videos, and interactive activities on topics like wildlife photography and film, and finding “wild” inspiration for art, writing and music.
Creative arts allow children to build heart-based connection with nature. Youth aged 8-18 spend 53 hours per week with media screens, and are the first generation predicted not to outlive their parents! These kids and teens desperately need quality time in the outdoors to stay healthy and learn to care about the environment.
Best Practices resources will make it easy for teachers and parents to get youth "getting to know" the outdoors.
