Goals

  • Train adult leaders in pre-elementary settings (day care, nursery)

Overview

Our trained faciltators will use the resources and presentations they've used successfully in high schools and elementary schools for workshops in pre-elementary settings like day cares, kindergartens, and nursery schools. This training is important for a number of reasons. It's the first time most kids will be under the supervision of adults other than their parents. Untrained adult leaders usually make mistakes about seizures and believe children are inattentive or have ADD. They needlessly recommend the chidlren for special needs clases or worse belittle the children for their behaviour in front of the other children. The children's peers need to be reassured that seizures are nothing to be afraid of or contagious. Parents of children with epilepsy need to know that the adult leaders will properly support and care for their child and their seizure disorder. Children with epilepsy tell our staff that the stigma of ridicule and ignorance hurst more than the seizures themselves.
