Currently Our Unity for Autism: Friendship program offers social and recreation programs to children and youth with Autism. We have several different groups that meet once a week during the school year, and 3 times a week during the summer.  The groups are divided up according to age and autism severity. No other program of this nature is running in Cape Breton, specifically targeting social issues of children with autism. The nature of autism affects these young people by creating for the most part an unwillingness to partake in group activities. Our groups are programed around the challenges these individuals have and we encourage social relationships. All funds raised by Autism Cape Breton go directly into our social and recreation programs and we are hoping to expand our programming to service more individuals such as the adult population living with Autism. This grant will provide funds for an 8 week summer program with groups meeting 3 times per week.
