Create an organzation that provides guitars to youth in Wpg.Guitars for Kids Wpg/Ashley McCurdy

Project Summary:

"Guitars for Kids Wpg" is a non-profit organization that provides guitars to youth in lower income areas in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The guitar is much more than an instrument and can provide not only a lifelong pastime and a concrete skill for youth but has many benefits including higher grades, a lower prosperity to misbehave while learning commitment and self-discipline. We hope to inspire those kids who don't always have an oppourtunity to be creative. These kids want to play but not everyone can afford a guitar. That's where "Guitars for Kids Wpg" come in. We gather used guitars, fix them up and donate them free of charge to a willing student. 

Deliverables:

- Give away 50 guitars in one year.
- To encourage these kids with the love of music.
- Local press mentions (paper, radio, tv).

 

 

Our project will inspire and encourage the youth of Winnipeg with the love of the guitar. Playing the guitar also has a huge impact on a childs social interaction. There is nothing more rewarding in the world to see the look on a childs face when they play their first note, chord or song. "Guitars for Kids Wpg" founder Ashley McCurdy is a local guitar instructor who has spent the last 5 years teaching guitar to economically disadvantaged kids for different organizations and has seen first hand that they need instruments. They want to play but not everyone can afford an instrument. "Guitars for Kids Wpg" wants to help.
