Overview

Rabbits are the 3rd most popular pet next to cats and dogs, and are often the most misunderstood.  Many rabbits are purchased at Easter, and when the novelty wears off, are placed in overcrowded shelters or dumped in forests, where only a lucky few will survive.  We plan to offer a better option - a shelter where these rabbits will be given a loving environment until forever homes are found and sanctuary for those that cannot be placed.  All rabbits will be provided with veterinary care, proper housing, nutrition, socialization and spays or neuters.  There will be an education area with printed materials and seminar rooms.  The rabbits are currently housed in foster homes, of which there are few, and the building of a shelter will enable us to care for the ever increasing numbers of animals needing help.  We will also be able to hold regular viewing hours thereby increasing the number of adoptions.

Community Benefit

We plan to educate the public on the care of rabbits as a house pet, going into schools, pet shops and wherever we are welcomed. We plan to have student volunteers at the sanctuary and will invite veterinary students to learn about rabbit health. Our goal is to greatly reduce the number of rabbits bought as impuse pets by educating the public on the responsibilities of rabbit ownership.
