Overview

THE STEP UP PROGRAM is aimed to encourage a healthy lifestyle in young girls. Throughout the program, we propose to have 10 themes; each theme would involve physical activity (through step), a thematic discussion, a hands-on activity, and either a guest speaker or a field trip. The themes will last from 2 to 3 one hour sessions per week.

Our aim is to start our program in September of 2011 in a downtown priority neighbourhood of Ottawa.

The program is in two-fold, not only do we want young females to participate in the program itself, but we are also looking for Grade 12 student mentors to help host the weekly sessions. These students will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in program development and facilitation, contribute to their community, be provided with honoraria, as well as get references and volunteer hours to go towards their high school diploma.
