Overview

Zajac Ranch is a camp for children with serious and chronic illnesses and disabilities. Located in Mission, BC, Zajac Ranch held its first summer camp in 2004.

Zajac Ranch is dedicated to helping youth with disabilities through innovative community projects, focusing on developing life-long skills and independence. At Zajac Ranch not only do we raise spirits, we transform lives!

Every summer, Zajac Ranch welcomes almost 500 campers, aged 7-17, with a wide variety of medical diagnoses.

The primary objectives of Zajac Ranch are to provide youth with memorable summer camp experiences and to help improve the lives of campers through innovative social and recreational programs. Our camp programs both raise the spirits of these children while at the same time help to build esteem, confidence, independence and social and physical skills.

Our vision is that one day, any special needs child in BC will be able to attend camp at Zajac Ranch free of charge.

Community Benefit

With over 53,000 children and youth with special needs in BC, the Zajac Ranch for Children continues to provide a solution to community needs, by providing effective recreational services that support the social, physical and emotional well being of children with disabilities and serious and chronic illnesses. With the creation of the Zajac Ranch, these needs are being met. Zajac Ranch offers the ultimate camp experience – a place of excitement and fun, of healing and rejuvenation – for children who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to attend summer camp, due to their medical conditions. Recognizing that many families with children battling illnesses face additional expenses for the specialized care necessary for their special needs children, the Campership Program was created to help offset the cost of camp, to afford special needs children (and their families) with the opportunity to benefit from the Zajac Ranch camp experience.

How will the $100K be used?

Budget Notes: Actual costs to send a child to camp are approximately $1100, but Zajac Foundation subsidizes a minimum of 50% through fundraising efforts. In addition, currently, 60-70% of campers are subsidized up to 100%. Total costs to send 500 children to Zajac Ranch in summer 2011 is budgeted at $660,000.
$ 100,000 subsidize a camp experience for up to 100 children
