Overview
Isn't it ironic that to enjoy nature, we use our gas-guzzlers to get out of the city? Can only those who have access to a vehicle enjoy the most basic, yet extraordinary activity in Canada - the great outdoors?
Parkbus is a non-profit initiative introducing affordable bus service between cities and provincial parks in Ontario. In partnership with the City of Toronto, Ontario Parks, Hammond Transportation and a dozen more private and public organizations, we work to create environmentally friendly, efficient and affordable public bus service starting with Toronto and Algonquin Park
Proposed plans for 2011 include:
- Regular bus service between Toronto and Algonquin Park in the summer, directly benefiting over 1,000,000 people who do not have a car
- Test pilot service between Ottawa and Algonquin Park on Civic Holiday long weekend
- Volunteer-based educational component to encourage first-time campers and responsible park use
- Improvement of park infrastructure aimed at visitors without cars
