Goals

  • To provide safe housing for at risk pregnant women
  • Teach them parenting and life skills
  • Give them time to bond with their babies so they may thrive
  • To end the cycle of poverty and homelessness

Overview

The society will rent a three bedroom house. It will be open to pregnant women in need of safe housing and their babies after birth (up to 18 months). There will be a house mother on site. The residents will receive pre and post natal care. They will learn parenting skills (e.g. anger management, discipline techniques), as well as life skills (e.g. budgeting, cooking).

The women will be connected with agencies and services, which will help them build a support system for when they leave the safe house so they may continue to foster their and their child’s health and well-being.

The project will provide timely intervention to allow new mothers to bond with their children. For newborns this positive attachment and bonding experience has lifelong benefits for health and well-being.

It will also empower the clients to make positive lifestyle choices, so they will live healthy and happy lives and become positive contributors to society.
