Overview

The spirit bear is one of the most endangered animals in the world and exists only in Canada. While it numbers fewer than 400, its future can be ensured if today's young people become aware of the threat and work together to find a solution that will allow for the bear to survive and neighbouring communities to thrive.

In order to raise awareness and inspire young people to care, the SBYC needs to personally reach 100,000 people in schools across Canada. Given the organization's small budget and the lack of funding available to schools to bring in speakers, the Pepsi Refresh grant will enable award-winning and sought-after motivational speaker Simon Jackson, the 27-year-old founder of the SBYC, to spend a year visting schools and communities across Canada.

By sharing a step-by-step example of how one young person made a difference, the speaking tour will work to help inspire young people to care about the spirit bear and give each student the chance to make a difference.

How will the $100K be used?

Budget Notes: A detailed breakdown of costs for the speaking tour will be provided by the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition and all unused funds will be donated to the Youth Coalition's education program, where 100% of money raised goes directly toward programs, not salaries.
